On October 5, 2019, President Russell M. Nelson made a momentous announcement that brought great joy to the community: the McAllen Texas Temple would soon become a reality. After much anticipation and dedication, the temple site was officially broken ground on November 21, 2020, with Elder Art Rascon presiding over the ceremony. His heartfelt prayer echoed the gratitude of thousands of Latter-day Saints, expressing appreciation for their faith and perseverance in establishing the Lord’s kingdom in the beautiful valley of southern Texas and beyond.

Fast forward to August 25 through September 9, 2023, as the temple opened its doors to the public for a magnificent open house, allowing the community to marvel at its stunning design. Then, on the momentous day of October 8, 2023, the McAllen Texas Temple was dedicated by the beloved Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf, marking another chapter in its sacred journey.

Spanning 10.61 acres, this architectural gem is adorned with beige precast concrete panels, skillfully crafted by Gate Precast of Hillsboro, Texas. The temple stands tall at 108 feet, featuring a beautifully designed single attached central tower. Inside, guests can experience tranquility in two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, all within a total floor area of 27,897 square feet.

The striking exterior is complemented by a steel-frame structure, with plush soft-gold broadloom carpet in the general areas and instruction rooms, providing a sense of warmth and peace. In the celestial and sealing rooms, luxurious wall-to-wall wool rugs offer an atmosphere of serenity. Vivid area rugs in blues, golds, and greens add a touch of vibrance to the space, enhancing the spiritual experience.

But the temple is not just a standalone structure; plans also include a meetinghouse adjacent to it, measuring over 19,000 square feet, designed to accommodate three wards, a stake suite, mission offices, and a distribution center—truly a hub for the community’s spiritual activities.

With its grand offerings and thoughtful design, the McAllen Texas Temple stands as a beacon of hope and faith, welcoming all who seek a deeper connection with their spirituality in a truly beautiful setting. It’s not just a temple; it’s a sanctuary built on the prayers and dedication of its community, a testament to their enduring devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
