Medford Oregon Temple LDS Temple News

The Medford Oregon Temple is the 79th dedicated Temple in operation. It first came to people’s attention when it was announced by the Prophet during the General Conference on March 15, 1999. Not long after this announcement, groundbreaking and site dedication were held on May 20, 1999, led by D. Lee Tobler.

An eagerly anticipated public open house took place from March 24 to March 29, 1999. This event attracted 46,000 attendees, significantly surpassing the expected number by 16,000. Following this successful open house, the Medford Oregon Temple was dedicated on April 16, 2000, by Apostle James E. Faust.

Architectural Features and Size

Covering an area of 10,700 square feet and set on 2 acres of land, this single-story Temple features an exterior finished with gray granite quarried from Mount Airy, North Carolina. One of its standout architectural elements is the single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, which is a distinctive and cherished feature in many Temples.

Facilities Inside the Temple

Inside, the Medford Oregon Temple is equipped with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. Each space is thoughtfully designed to accommodate specific spiritual purposes and teachings.

Location and Elevation

Located at 3900 Grant Rd, Central Point, Oregon 97502, the Temple sits at an elevation of 1,272 feet, providing a picturesque backdrop for its surrounding area. This is a notable aspect, as it is the first Temple established in Central Point and also the first in Jackson County.

Oregon’s Temple Landscape

The Medford Oregon Temple is the second Temple built in the state of Oregon, following the Portland Oregon Temple, which was dedicated in 1989. This Temple reflects the growth and dedication of the local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as the general contractor and job superintendent for the Temple were also members of this faith.

In summary, the Medford Oregon Temple is more than just a physical presence; it serves as an integral part of the local spiritual landscape, reflecting both architectural beauty and profound meaning for its members.
