The story of the Medford Oregon Temple begins with its announcement on March 15, 1999, during a General Conference. This moment marked an important milestone for the region. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place soon after on May 20, 1999, led by D. Lee Tobler, setting the course for the construction.

From March 24 to March 29, 1999, an open house invited the public to explore the new Temple before its dedication. The event attracted 46,000 attendees, surpassing expectations by a significant margin of 16,000. This enthusiastic response highlighted the excitement surrounding the Temple’s construction.

The dedication itself occurred on April 16, 2000, officiated by Apostle James E. Faust. This event solidified the Temple’s role in the region and served as a source of inspiration for many.

Location and Significance

Positioned at an elevation of 1,272 feet, the Medford Oregon Temple marks significant achievements for the area. It was the first Temple built in Central Point, as well as the first for Jackson County. Additionally, it holds the title of the second Temple built in the state of Oregon, following the Portland Oregon Temple, which was dedicated in 1989.

It is noteworthy that both the general contractor and job superintendent involved in the Temple’s construction were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, further exemplifying the commitment of the local faith community.

The Medford Oregon Temple stands not only as a building but also as a place where individuals may find a deeper connection to their beliefs and community values.
