The journey for the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple began on October 3, 2009, when President Thomas S. Monson announced its construction during General Conference. The groundbreaking took place on June 18, 2011, led by Walter F. González, marking the start of a new chapter for the faith in South Florida.
Open House and Dedication
Following years of dedication and hard work, a public open house was held from March 29 to April 19, 2014, allowing many to experience the beauty and spirit of the Temple. The dedication occurred on May 4, 2014, officiated by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf. He expressed, “As we gather to dedicate this Temple, we dedicate our hearts and souls to the Lord.”
Architectural Features and Design
The Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple is built on 16.82 acres and spans 30,500 square feet. It showcases architectural precast concrete on its exterior, highlighted by a stunning single attached end spire, topped with a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue.
Interior Highlights
This single-story Temple features two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry, thoughtfully designed to accommodate various spiritual needs. Inside, you’ll find Schonbek chandeliers that enhance the bright, elegant decor, and original, hand-painted murals by artist Brad Aldridge, inspired by South Florida’s lush landscapes. The interior doors, crafted from Red Grandis wood from Ecuador, and complemented by bronze hardware, add a touch of sophistication to the design.

The exterior art glass reflects the natural beauty of Florida, designed with motifs of grass leaves in a palette of blue, green, and earth tones, resonating with the coastal serenity of the area. Additionally, the stained glass windows emphasize geometric shapes and local flora, beautifully merging art with architecture.
Accolades and Significance
The Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple holds the distinction of being the first in the city of Davie and the second in the state of Florida. On October 24, 2012, the Temple was honored as the ENR Southeast’s “Best Projects” award winner for 2014 in the Cultural/Worship category.
