The Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple stands as an extraordinary architectural and cultural landmark with an impressive history. Announced on October 3, 2009, its journey officially began with a groundbreaking ceremony on July 18, 2011, led by Walter F. Gonzalez. After much anticipation, the temple warmly opened its doors to the public from March 19 to April 19, 2014, before being formally dedicated by Dieter F. Uchtdorf on May 4, 2014.

Located on a coveted 16.82-acre site in Davie, this stunning temple boasts a striking precast concrete exterior and a towering spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni that reaches an impressive height of 99 feet. Inside, the temple houses two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all thoughtfully designed within 30,500 square feet of sacred space. Exquisite artistic motifs capture the essence of Florida’s natural beauty, featuring sun and palm tree designs that seamlessly blend with Neoclassical elements like elegant arches and columns.

The land on which this temple now stands has a fascinating backstory. Initially designated for a middle school in 2003, changing educational priorities led the Broward County School Board to abandon those plans by 2009. Seizing the opportunity, the Church expressed strong interest in acquiring the site, setting the stage for the temple’s remarkable construction. With the completion of a Notice of Termination to the School Board and the payment of educational impact fees, the zoning was amended to accommodate the temple while allowing for future residential development in the area.

Strategically situated just north of Griffin Road and Interstate 75, with the Robbins – Vista View Trail running adjacent to the property along Shotgun Road, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple is not merely a place of worship; it serves as a serene and accessible retreat for the community. Its grand design, striking history, and significant role in the spiritual landscape of South Florida make it an essential destination for those seeking inspiration, peace, and connection. This temple is truly a beacon of hope and beauty in the region!
