Located at 365 N 200 W in Monticello, this remarkable temple occupies 1.33 acres and features an impressive exterior crafted from Turkish off-white marble, radiating elegance and beauty.
One of its standout features is the striking single spire, crowned with a resplendent gold leaf statue of the angel Moroni. Originally adorned with a white statue, it was upgraded to gold after a lightning strike, adding to its allure and significance.
The journey to this architectural masterpiece began with its announcement on October 4, 1997, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony led by Ben B. Banks on November 17 of that same year. Remarkably, this temple was constructed in just eight months—the fastest of any temple affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—showcasing the commitment and determination behind its creation. The public had the privilege of experiencing its beauty during an open house from July 16 to 18, 1998, before its dedication, which took place on July 26 and 27, 1998, under the direction of the esteemed Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
In 2002, the temple welcomed visitors back for another open house from November 2 to 9, culminating in a rededication on November 17, also presided over by Hinckley. Inside, the Monticello Utah Temple boasts two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistery, all encapsulated within its spacious 11,225 square feet of sacred area.
Perched at an elevation of 7,098 feet, the temple towers 66 feet above the landscape, harmoniously blending with its surroundings. Notably, it also shares a parking lot with a local meeting house, highlighting its role as a vital hub for worship and community connection.
