The journey to bring the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple into existence began on October 3, 1992, when the announcement was made. Shortly thereafter, on October 9, 1993, the groundbreaking and site dedication occurred, overseen by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. The community engagement during the public open house from August 6 to September 21, 1996, was remarkable, with over 679,217 individuals touring the Temple.

The dedication of the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple took place from October 13 to October 19, 1996, again led by Gordon B. Hinckley.

Architectural Features

Built on 16.7 acres, the Temple features a stunning exterior finish of sierra white granite. The art glass windows beautifully complement the bronze doors, creating an inviting entrance. Notably, the architectural design includes a single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue.

Interior Design

Inside, the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple houses:

  • Four instruction rooms
  • Eight sealing rooms
  • One baptistry

The overall size of the Temple measures 107,240 square feet, reaching a height of 190 feet and sitting at an elevation of 4,764 feet. It is particularly interesting to note that this is the ninth Temple built in Utah and the second in Utah County.

Adaptive Floor Plan

The Temple’s adaptive floor plan is very similar to that of the Bountiful Utah Temple, allowing for efficient use of space while providing areas suited for various functions.

Unique Features

On July 17, 1995, a significant event took place with the installation of a gold leafed Angel Moroni statue, attended by about 20,000 individuals.

Another unique aspect is the inscription “Holiness to the Lord,” which appears twice on the building—once on the exterior above the east windows and again etched into the glass near the west entrance.

In summary, the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple is not just a building; it is a place representing the faith and commitment of its affiliated community. From its architectural beauty to its historical significance, this Temple continues to play an important role in the lives of many.
