Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple

The Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple is not just any building; it’s a beautiful beacon of faith and community that’s set to be the 196th dedicated temple! You can find it at 2093 Powell Road in charming Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, where it’s sure to become a beloved gathering place.

The journey to this lovely temple began when the Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced its construction on April 5, 2020. You could feel the excitement in the air! Fast forward to August 21, 2021, when Elder Randall K. Bennett led the groundbreaking ceremony. His words still resonate: he encouraged everyone present to use that day for some “emotional and spiritual building” in their lives. How inspiring!

Mark your calendars! The temple will open its doors for a public open house from August 16 to August 31, 2024. This is a fantastic chance for everyone to come explore and appreciate the beauty of this sacred space before its dedication on September 15, 2024, by the wonderful Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

Spanning 5.8 acres, the temple’s exterior is dressed in gorgeous granite cladding from Portugal—talk about eye-catching! It features a unique single central spire, which gives it a distinctive look without the traditional gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, making it quite special.

Inside, you’ll find a roomy 32,240 square feet filled with warmth and tranquility. There are two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all designed to create a welcoming space for families seeking to grow spiritually. The interiors are adorned with soft green carpeting accented with hints of gold that create a cozy atmosphere. And let’s not forget the beautiful Crema Ella marble from Turkey, which adds a touch of elegance throughout.

One of the highlights is the celestial room with its soothing organic leaf pattern that invites peace and reflection. The sealing room and celestial room are simply stunning, featuring sparkling crystal chandeliers with frosted glass and brass accents that create a magical ambiance.

This temple is the second in Pennsylvania, serving around 100,000 Latter-day Saints in the Pittsburgh area. The history of the state is rich in significant events, like when Prophet Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and when John the Baptist appeared to him and Oliver Cowdery, restoring the Aaronic Priesthood nearby. What a powerful legacy!

The temple’s rendering was shared with the public on January 19, 2021, and now, as we get closer to opening day, the excitement is palpable! The Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple is not just a building; it’s a community hub where faith, family, and friendship thrive. Everyone can’t wait to come together and create beautiful memories in this sacred space!
