The announcement of the Richmond Virginia Temple was made by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 188th annual General Conference on April 1, 2018. This moment marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the region. The groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on April 11, 2020, led by Randall K. Bennett, setting the foundation for what would become a notable feature in Glen Allen.
The public open house took place from March 25 through April 15, 2023, allowing many to experience the beauty of the Temple before its dedication. Prophet Dallin H. Oaks dedicated the Richmond Virginia Temple on May 7, 2023, officially marking its entry into operation.
