The Meridian Idaho Temple: A Testament to Faith and Community Growth
The Meridian Idaho Temple stands as the 158th dedicated Temple in operation, marking a significant achievement in the story of faith and community development in Idaho. Located at 7355 N Linder Rd, Meridian, Idaho 83646, this beautiful Temple has become a focal point for many in the area.
Meridian Idaho Temple an LDS Temple
On April 2, 2011, during the 181st General Conference, Prophet Thomas S. Monson announced the Meridian Idaho Temple to the public. This revelation came at a time when Meridian was experiencing remarkable growth, enjoying a 115 percent increase in population from 2000 to 2010. During this period, three additional stakes were organized in Meridian with four more in nearby communities, including Nampa, Kuna, and Middleton.
The groundbreaking and site dedication of the Temple took place on August 23, 2014, presided over by Apostle David A. Bednar. Notable civic leaders, including Meridian Mayor Tammy deWeerd and Eagle Mayor James Reynolds, attended. Elder Bednar reminded attendees of the lasting impact the Temple would have on future generations, encouraging them to foster gratitude long after its dedication.
A Beautiful Interior and Exterior
The public open house for the Meridian Idaho Temple ran from October 21 to November 11, 2017, attracting over 200,000 individuals. It was officially dedicated on November 19, 2017, by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf. In his dedicatory prayer, he expressed hopes for all who engage with the Temple, stating, “May they know that the service they give is service unto Thee and may they find joy therein.”
The Meridian Idaho Temple is a stunning example of modern classical architecture, built on 15.73 acres and measuring 67,331 square feet. Its exterior finish is precast concrete, showcasing an attached central tower and an octagonal dome topped with a 13-foot-6-inch statue of the angel Moroni, raised to its place on July 20, 2016.
Architectural Features
The Temple features numerous artistic elements that reflect Idaho’s unique landscape and culture. The exterior art glass incorporates geometric, Art Deco-inspired patterns and stylized, blossoming lily-like flowers. Inside, the magnificent lighting fixtures, including multi-tiered crystal and bronze chandeliers, create a warm ambiance. The Celestial Room and prominent spaces complement features made from Egyptian, Italian, and Spanish marble, alongside rich quarter-sawn sapele.

Crafted from durable Sapele African mahogany and accented with floral metal hardware, the doors exemplify the Temple’s attention to detail.
Baptistry Railing
The baptismal font is surrounded by a railing that features Prairie-style geometric lines, crafted from warm mahogany and decorative metal accents, echoing local flora designs.
The Grounds
The meticulously cared-for grounds feature scenic walkways, ponds, and lush shrubbery. The cupola atop the Temple utilizes titanium surfacing, changing colors from blue-gray to gold to bronze, evoking the natural beauty of Idaho.
Cultural Significance
In honor of the Temple’s dedication, a cultural celebration titled “Be Strong, Steadfast, and Immovable” brought together nearly 6,000 youth from the Meridian Idaho Temple district. This gathering took place at the Taco Bell Arena on the Boise State University campus on November 18, 2017. President Uchtdorf emphasized the importance of the youth, stating that they represent the future of the area and its values.
This Temple is not only a beautiful addition to Meridian, but it also represents the deepening roots of faith and shared values within the community, making its recent history significant for both its inhabitants and visitors alike.
