Let’s embark on an exciting journey through the story of the Meridian Idaho Temple, the 158th temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! It all began on April 2, 2011, during the uplifting Saturday Morning Session of the 181st Annual General Conference when this beautiful temple was announced. Fast forward to August 23, 2014, and we witnessed a special moment as Elder David A. Bednar led the groundbreaking ceremony, encouraging everyone present to let their gratitude shine bright, not just on that day, but for all the years to come.
The official dedication took place on November 19, 2017, led by the beloved Dieter F. Uchtdorf. His heartfelt blessings for everyone who would visit this sacred space remind us of the profound experience awaiting all who enter. He hoped that the sacred covenants and ordinances would truly shape and anchor the hearts and minds of patrons.
Sitting gracefully on 15.73 acres, the Meridian Idaho Temple dazzles with its stunning precast concrete finish. Its elegant architecture features a single tower and an eye-catching octagonal dome, topped off with a glorious gold leaf statue of the angel Moroni. Inside, you’ll find three instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and a baptistery, all housed within a spacious 67,331 square feet. Standing tall at 120 feet and 2 inches, it’s also at a breathtaking elevation of 2,563 feet!
Located on the northern end of the city along the charming Boise River and North Linder Road, the temple is surrounded by beautifully maintained grounds, complete with two serene ponds that add to the tranquility of the area. Fun fact: this is the fifth temple built in Idaho, which shows just how vibrant and dedicated our community is!
Don’t forget to mark May 14, 2013, on your calendar! That’s when the official rendering of this architectural jewel was released, and excitement filled the air. Then, on July 20, 2016, we all held our breath as a crane lifted the impressive 13-foot-6-inch statue of the angel Moroni to its rightful place atop the temple!
