Let me share the delightful story of the Meridian Idaho Temple with you! This beautiful temple, the 158th to be dedicated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, officially opened its doors on November 19, 2017. It all began back on April 2, 2011, during the Saturday Morning Session of the 181st Annual General Conference when the temple was announced. What a special moment for everyone involved!
A heartfelt groundbreaking ceremony took place on August 23, 2014, led by Elder David A. Bednar. His encouraging words at the ceremony really struck a chord, reminding everyone to keep a spirit of gratitude that lasts well beyond the temple’s dedication. It’s wonderful to think of this temple as a shining light for anyone seeking to grow in their faith!
The dedication itself was handled by the warm and beloved apostle, Dieter F. Uchtdorf, who offered beautiful blessings for all who would visit the temple. His words were a reminder that the sacred experiences shared within would be treasured in the hearts of everyone who walked through its doors.
Set on a picturesque 15.73 acres, the Meridian Idaho Temple features a charming exterior made of precast concrete. With its distinct tower and octagonal dome topped by a stunning golden angel Moroni, the temple is truly a sight to behold! Inside, visitors can find three instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and a baptistery, all thoughtfully designed across a spacious area of 67,331 square feet. Plus, it stands tall at 120 feet and 2 inches, sitting at an elevation of 2,563 feet—how cool is that?
You’ll find the temple on the north side of the city, alongside the serene Boise River and North Linder Road, surrounded by lovely gardens and two fantastic ponds on the east lawn. As the fifth temple built in Idaho, it holds a special place in the hearts of many!
A fun fact: the official rendering of this beautiful temple was revealed on May 14, 2013! And imagine the excitement when the 13-foot-6-inch statue of the angel Moroni was gently lifted into place by crane on July 20, 2016.
The Meridian Idaho Temple is not just a building; it’s a welcoming space for everyone—a place of reflection and joy that beautifully represents the faith of the community. If you ever get a chance to visit, take some time to soak in the peaceful atmosphere!
