Situated at 365 N 200 W in Monticello, this impressive temple is set on 1.33 acres, featuring a stunning exterior crafted from Turkish off-white marble that radiates beauty and grace.
A standout feature of the temple is its single attached spire, crowned with a striking gold leaf statue of the angel Moroni. Originally adorned with a white statue, the temple endured a thunderous lightning strike that led to the installation of the breathtaking gold version we see today, brilliantly capturing the attention of all who pass by.
The journey to this architectural marvel began with its announcement on October 4, 1997, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony conducted by Ben B. Banks on November 17 of the same year. After a remarkable eight months of construction—the fastest for any temple associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—the Monticello Utah Temple opened its doors for a momentous open house from July 16 to 18, 1998. The dedication took place shortly thereafter, on July 26 and 27, 1998, led by the revered Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
In 2002, the temple welcomed the community once more with another open house from November 2 to 9, wrapping up with a rededication on November 17, once again officiated by Hinckley. Inside, the temple offers two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistery, all within a spacious 11,225 square feet of sacred sanctuary.
Elevated at 7,098 feet, the Monticello Utah Temple soars to a height of 66 feet, seamlessly blending with the breathtaking surrounding landscape. It also shares a parking lot with one of the local meeting houses, reinforcing its vital role as a center of worship and community connection.
