The Monticello Utah Temple, the 53rd dedicated temple in the world, stands as a beautiful testament to faith and community in the heart of Utah. Located at 365 N 200 W in Monticello, this stunning temple is built on 1.33 acres and showcases an exquisite exterior of Turkish off-white marble that gleams under the sun.

One of its most striking features is the single attached spire, topped with a gold leaf statue of the angel Moroni. Interestingly, the original statue was white, but after being struck by lightning, it was replaced with the eye-catching gold version that catches the eye of every passerby.

The journey to this architectural gem began with its announcement on October 4, 1997, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony led by Ben B. Banks on November 17 of the same year. After nearly a year of construction—the fastest time for any temple associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—the Monticello Utah Temple opened its doors to the public for a special open house from July 16 to 18, 1998. The dedication took place shortly after, on July 26 and 27, 1998, officiated by the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.

In 2002, another open house was conducted from November 2 to 9, culminating in a rededication on November 17, again by Hinckley, showcasing the temple’s importance to the community. Inside, the temple features two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistery, all within its 11,225 square feet of sacred space.

Perched at an elevation of 7,098 feet, the Monticello Utah Temple rises 66 feet into the sky, beautifully complementing the surrounding landscape. Notably, it shares a parking lot with one of the local meeting houses, emphasizing its role as a center of worship and gathering.
