LDS Temple News is sharing Montpelier Idaho Temple: A Historic New Addition
The Montpelier Idaho Temple, located at Washington St, Montpelier, ID 83254, represents a significant development in the state of Idaho. Announced by Prophet Russell M. Nelson on April 3, 2022, this addition is part of the Church’s vision for expanding spiritual resources in the region.
The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on June 17, 2023, led by Elder Ryan K. Olsen. In his remarks, he expressed hopes for understanding and peace for all who would be involved with the new facility, emphasizing confidence in divine plans.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple is built on a 2.6-acre lot and covers an impressive 27,000 square feet. One of its distinctive architectural features is a single attached central tower, which notably does not feature a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue. The interior is designed with functionality in mind, including two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry.
At an elevation of 5,969 feet, the temple stands as a beautiful addition to the surrounding landscape and represents a growing spiritual presence in the area. The temple’s rendering was released to the public on April 24, 2023, providing a glimpse of what the facility will look like.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple is set to be dedicated on Sunday, October 18, 2026, with a rebroadcast scheduled for 2:00 PM. Before its official dedication, there will be a Public Open House from September 10th to 26th, 2026, offering opportunities for individuals to learn more about the space.
With this new addition, the Montpelier Idaho Temple becomes the eighth temple in Idaho. The state has a rich history with Church pioneers settling in the region as early as 1855. Notably, several Church presidents, including Harold B. Lee, Ezra Taft Benson, and Howard W. Hunter, are natives of Idaho. At the time of the announcement, other temples in the state included the Twin Falls Idaho Temple, Boise Idaho Temple, Burley Idaho Temple, Idaho Falls Idaho Temple, Meridian Idaho Temple, Pocatello Idaho Temple, Rexburg Idaho Temple, and Teton River Idaho Temple.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple will not only bring new opportunities for spiritual engagement but also further enrich the local area, continuing the legacy of faith and dedication that has existed in Idaho for generations.
