Nestled 15 miles south of Nashville’s state capital in the charming suburb of Franklin, the Temple is adjacent to the Franklin Tennessee Stake Center, with scenic views of two expansive 100-acre horse farms and the historic Battle Ground Academy nearby. The announcement for the Nashville Tennessee Temple was made on November 9, 1994, by Prophet Howard W. Hunter. Groundbreaking and site dedication took place on March 13, 1999, led by John K. Carmack. This event unfolded on a cold and rainy spring day and drew an audience of around 1,500 people from central Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Elder Carmack highlighted the significance of perseverance, comparing the challenges of securing the Temple site to the patience demonstrated by Jacob of the Old Testament, who waited over seven years to marry Rachel.

From May 6 to May 13, 2000, the Nashville Tennessee Temple held a public open house that saw a remarkable attendance of 24,300 individuals exploring the sacred space. The formal dedication occurred on May 21, 2000, conducted by Apostle James E. Faust across four sessions, with 6,052 attendees participating.

Covering 6.86 acres, the Nashville Tennessee Temple boasts a striking exterior finish of imperial danby white marble. Uniquely, this Temple is built as a single story, making it the first of its kind in Nashville.

The Nashville Tennessee Temple was the second Temple established in Tennessee, following the Memphis Tennessee Temple, which was dedicated just a month earlier.
