The Yuma Arizona Temple, which is set to become a significant part of the Arizona landscape, is eagerly anticipated by many. Situated at the intersection of East 36th Street and South 8 East Avenue in Yuma, Arizona, this Temple will mark a new chapter for the region.

Announcement and Context

On April 7, 2024, during the 194th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans for the Yuma Arizona Temple. This announcement comes at a time when Arizona is home to over 440,000 Latter-day Saints, organized into approximately 925 groups. The Yuma Arizona Temple will be the seventh in the state, joining the ranks of other Temples, including the Gilbert, Mesa, Phoenix, Snowflake, Gila Valley, and Tucson Temples.

Key Features

The Yuma Arizona Temple will be built on a spacious 7-acre site. Remarkably, the structure will feature an exterior finish of granite, presenting a polished and enduring appearance. Architecturally, the Temple will boast a single attached end spire, distinguishing it from other Temples, as it will not include a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue.

The building will encompass approximately 18,500 square feet and will reach a height of about 30 feet. It will be a single-story design accompanied by an ancillary building, sitting at an elevation of 210 feet. Notably, this will be the first Temple constructed in Yuma and Yuma County.

Layout and Facilities

According to the site plan, the Yuma Arizona Temple will include two instruction rooms and two sealing rooms, along with a baptistry, providing essential facilities for its intended purposes.

Significance and Location

Upon completion, this Temple will become the westernmost in Arizona, conveniently located just 6 miles from California and 17 miles from Mexico. At the time of its announcement, the closest Temple was the San Diego California Temple, situated approximately 150 miles away; however, many had been attending the Phoenix Arizona Temple due to closures for renovations at the San Diego location.

Future Vision

With the rendering released on November 24, 2025, many are looking forward to witnessing the evolution of this vital addition to Yuma’s landscape. The Yuma Arizona Temple not only enhances the spiritual context of the area but also illustrates the growth and commitment of Latter-day Saints in Arizona.

In conclusion, the Yuma Arizona Temple is set to be a meaningful addition to the Arizona state and will undoubtedly play a significant role in the lives of many in the surrounding areas.
