Discovering the Burley Idaho Temple

The Burley Idaho Temple stands as the 212th dedicated Temple in operation, marking a significant addition to the area’s spiritual landscape.

Historical Context

Announced on April 4, 2021, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 191st General Conference, this Temple’s establishment is a testament to the growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Idaho, which had over 460,000 members and 1,200 units at the time. The pioneers settled in Idaho as early as 1855, laying the groundwork for future developments like the Burley Idaho Temple.

Groundbreaking Moment

The groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on June 4, 2022, led by Brent H. Nielsen. He reflected on the significance of the location, sharing, “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life and the wonderful abundance that the Lord has blessed all who reside in this beautiful Magic Valley.” His words emphasized the hopeful anticipation of a spiritual harvest as the Temple was constructed.

Dedication and Accessibility

The Burley Idaho Temple opened its doors for an open house from November 6 to November 22, 2025. It was dedicated shortly after, on January 11, 2026, by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks.

Architectural Details

Spanning 10.12 acres, this Temple has a total area of 45,300 square feet. The exterior is adorned with Bianco Sarda granite, contributing to its striking appearance. The design features a single attached end spire, distinguishing it with a unique outline that does not include an Angel Moroni statue.

Interior Design Elements

Inside the Burley Idaho Temple, art glass patterns depict the blossoms and leaves of the potato plant, paying homage to the agricultural backdrop of the area. The color palette—incorporating blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green—reflects the local farmland and open skies.

Flooring and Furnishings

Soft gold broadloom carpets adorn general areas, while creamy white carpets grace the celestial and sealing rooms. Area rugs in spaces like the brides’ room add a touch of warmth. Decorative light fixtures, combining bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster, illuminate various rooms and create an atmosphere of refined elegance.

Unique Craftsmanship

The interior showcases quarter-sawn sapele wood throughout, contributing to the refined ambiance. Each interior door is crafted from sapele, featuring bronze hardware with a potato blossom design in a rubbed bronze finish, further enhancing the local connection.

Artistic Inspirations

The Temple’s artwork not only ties in the local agricultural heritage but also celebrates the dramatic terrain of Idaho’s high plains and agricultural vistas, creating a cohesive experience for all who enter.

The Seventh in Idaho

As the seventh Temple built in Idaho, following others such as the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple (1945) and the Boise Idaho Temple (1984), the Burley Idaho Temple enriches the spiritual fabric of the state. Its design and significance reflect both a deep-rooted heritage and a hopeful future for the area.

As the Burley Idaho Temple continues to serve its purpose, it promises to be a significant chapter in the ongoing history of spirituality in Idaho.
