Montpelier Idaho Temple: A New Addition to Idaho’s Heritage by LDS Temple News

The Montpelier Idaho Temple, located at Washington St, Montpelier, ID 83254, is poised to become an integral part of the region’s spiritual landscape. Announced on April 3, 2022, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson, this new addition is enthusiastically anticipated by many.

The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on June 17, 2023, led by Elder Ryan K. Olsen. During the ceremony, he offered a heartfelt blessing for those in attendance, expressing a hope that they would find understanding and peace in the divine plan.

Spanning 2.6 acres, the Montpelier Idaho Temple features a distinctive architectural design. It has a single attached central tower, notable for the absence of a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. Inside, the Temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry. With a total area of 27,000 square feet, the Temple will serve a significant purpose for its intended audience.

Situated at an elevation of 5,969 feet, the Montpelier Idaho Temple will be the 8th addition to Idaho’s collection of Temples. The current Temples in the state include the Twin Falls, Boise, Burley, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Pocatello, Rexburg, and Teton River Temples.

On April 24, 2023, a rendering of the
Montpelier Idaho Temple was released, showcasing its unique design and features. The public open house is scheduled for September 10th to 26th, 2026, allowing many an opportunity to experience the Temple’s ambiance before its dedication.

The dedication ceremony for the Montpelier Idaho Temple is set for Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with a rebroadcast at 2:00 PM. This momentous occasion will mark a significant milestone, not only for the Temple but also for the history of Idaho, where early Church pioneers settled in 1855. The state has also been the birthplace of several Church presidents, including Harold B. Lee, Ezra Taft Benson, and Howard W. Hunter.

The Montpelier Idaho Temple stands as a testament to a rich heritage, serving as an important addition to the religious fabric of the area and honoring the legacy of those who have come before.
