Welcome to the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple, a beautiful gem nestled at 11022 S 4000 W in South Jordan, Utah, 84009! This stunning temple has a heartwarming story that began with its announcement on October 1, 2005. Fast forward to December 16, 2006, when the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley led the groundbreaking and dedication of the site, setting the stage for something truly special.
After much anticipation, the doors opened for the first public house from June 1 to August 1, 2009, welcoming visitors to come and explore its beauty. The dedication, which took place from August 21 to 23 that same year, was guided by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, marking a joyful occasion for everyone involved.
Sprawled across 11 acres, the temple dazzles with its Uinta Gold Granite exterior, sourced from China, and beautiful pavers made from Wyndam Grey Granite. One of the standout features is the elegant spire topped with a gold leafed angel Moroni statue, radiating grace and inspiration.
The Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple is an impressive 60,000 square feet and stands tall at 183 feet! Perched at an elevation of 4,783 feet, it proudly holds the title of the thirteenth temple built in Utah and is the fourth in the Salt Lake Valley, alongside the South Jordan Utah Temple.
In an unexpected twist during the open house on June 13, 2009, lightning struck the Moroni statue, leaving marks on its trumpet and arm! But no worries—just ten days before the dedicatory services, a beautiful replacement statue was installed, restoring the temple’s lovely charm.
Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by stunning light limestone from Morocco and darker limestone from Egypt, perfectly complemented by the warm woodwork of Rift-cut White Oak from Indiana and Kentucky. Keep an eye out for the incredible chandeliers, including a spectacular 15-foot tall one in the Celestial Room, adorned with 19,447 sparkling Swarovski crystals—it’s truly a sight to behold!
As you explore, don’t miss the unique bronzed door handrails made in the USA and the beautiful murals painted by dedicated church service missionaries. Each detail adds to the warm, inviting atmosphere of this sacred place.
The Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple is more than just a building; it’s a loving community space that celebrates faith, artistry, and connection. Come visit and experience the joy and tranquility of this remarkable temple for yourself!
