Welcome to the beautiful Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple! Nestled at 11022 S 4000 W in South Jordan, Utah, this stunning temple is a true gem in our community. It all began back on October 1, 2005, with an exciting announcement that set the stage for something special. Just a little over a year later, on December 16, 2006, the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley led the groundbreaking and site dedication, marking the start of a wonderful journey.
After much anticipation, we were thrilled to open our doors to the public for the first time from June 1 to August 1, 2009. What an incredible experience it was for everyone to walk through and admire the beauty inside! Then, from August 21 to 23, we celebrated the dedication of the temple with the guidance of Prophet Thomas S. Monson, making it a moment to cherish for generations to come.
Set on 11 gorgeous acres, the temple stands proud with its stunning exterior crafted from Uinta Gold Granite imported from China. The pavers, made of Wyndam Grey Granite from Northern China, add an elegant touch. One of the most captivating features is the tall spire topped with the golden angel Moroni statue—just breathtaking!
This impressive building covers 60,000 square feet and reaches a height of 183 feet, perched at an elevation of 4,783 feet. Fun fact: it’s the thirteenth temple built in Utah and the fourth in the Salt Lake Valley, sharing its grounds with the South Jordan Utah Temple.
In an unexpected twist, lightning struck the angel Moroni statue during the public open house on June 13, 2009! Thankfully, we were able to replace it with a brand-new statue just 10 days before the dedicatory services were held, restoring its beauty.
Step inside, and you’ll find a warm and inviting atmosphere filled with gorgeous light limestone from Morocco and darker limestone from Egypt. The woodwork, made from Rift-cut White Oak solids from Indiana and Kentucky, along with charming veneers from White Oak and Sycamore, really bring a cozy feel to the space. And let’s not forget the sparkling chandeliers, especially the stunning 15-foot tall one in the Celestial Room, which boasts 19,447 shimmering Swarovski crystals!
As you explore, take a moment to appreciate the beautiful bronze door handrails made right here in the USA and the lovely murals painted by dedicated church service missionaries, each telling their own story.
The Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple is more than just a building; it’s a lovely place filled with faith, warmth, and community spirit. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or coming back to cherish its beauty, you’re always welcome here!
