Welcome to the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple! Located at 11022 S 4000 W in beautiful South Jordan, Utah, this stunning temple is a true gem and a wonderful place to visit.
The temple’s journey began back on October 1, 2005, when it was officially announced. After much anticipation, the groundbreaking took place on December 16, 2006, led by the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. Fast forward to June 1, 2009, when the doors opened for its first public house, allowing visitors to explore its incredible beauty. The dedication, officiated by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, took place from August 21 to 23, wrapping up this exciting chapter.
Sitting on 11 acres, the temple’s exterior features a warm Uinta Gold Granite from China, complemented by lovely pavers made from Wyndam Grey Granite sourced from the Qingdao region of Northern China. One of its highlights is the beautifully crafted spire topped with a gold leafed angel Moroni statue that truly takes your breath away.
Spanning 60,000 square feet and standing 183 feet tall, the temple is a sight to behold! It also sits at a lovely elevation of 4,783 feet. Fun fact: it’s the thirteenth temple built in Utah and the fourth in the Salt Lake Valley, sharing the area with the South Jordan Utah Temple.
In a memorable moment during the public open house on June 13, 2009, lightning struck the angel Moroni statue, leaving it with some scorch marks. But don’t worry! A stunning replacement statue was installed on August 11, just in time for the dedicatory services.
As you step inside, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful interior that blends light limestone from Morocco with darker limestone from Egypt. The warm woodwork, featuring Rift-cut White Oak solids from Indiana and Kentucky, adds to the cozy feel, along with White Oak and Sycamore veneers on the doors. And did we mention the chandeliers? The Celestial Room features a magnificent 15-foot tall chandelier with 19,447 shimmering Swarovski crystals—it’s truly a sight to see!
