Orem Utah Temple an LDS Temple

Orem Utah Temple an LDS Temple

Discover the inspiring story behind the Orem Utah Temple, a magnificent addition to the landscape of Utah and a beacon of hope for many! Officially designated as the 188th temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it stands proudly at 1451 S 1100 W in Orem, Utah, 84058.

The journey began on October 5, 2019, when the temple was announced, stirring excitement and anticipation among the community. Just a year later, on September 5, 2020, a heartfelt groundbreaking ceremony took place, presided over by Elder Craig C. Christensen, bringing together members of the community and descendants of the original landowners, the Williamson family, who emigrated from Norway.

After an extensive period of construction, the Orem Utah Temple opened its doors for a public open house from October 27 to December 16, 2023—an opportunity for everyone to experience its beauty before it was officially dedicated. This enchanting temple nestles on 15.39 acres, crafted with care and designed to reflect the unique heritage and landscape of the region.

Visually striking, the temple features an elegant central spire that reaches a height of 218 feet! Its exterior is adorned with stunning pedras salgadas granite from Portugal, radiating a sense of timeless beauty. Unlike many temples, you won’t find a gold-leafed Angel Moroni here, but the bronze-colored doors and artful taupe-hued windows more than compensate, showcasing intricate designs of cherry blossoms and the wetlands that celebrate Utah’s natural splendor.

Inside, the temple boasts 71,998 square feet filled with serenity and reverence. You’ll discover four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry—all echoing the temple’s spiritual purpose. The interior shines with beautiful Crema Marfil marble, bringing warmth and elegance with its rich palette of cream, red, green, and brown. The flooring features stunning designs of diamond shapes and cherry leaf borders, inviting admiration and contemplation.

But it’s not just about the physical structure. Elder Christensen beautifully captured the essence of the temple when he remarked that it would be “an added refuge of strength in an increasingly uncertain world.” This sacred space is designed to uplift and inspire, offering a haven where individuals can grow closer to their faith and embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ.

With the Orem Utah Temple, the local community, which includes 26 rapidly growing stakes and an increasing number of wards, has a new spiritual home to call their own. As you explore this remarkable temple and its surroundings, you can truly feel the connection to both the history of the land and the bright future it represents for all who visit.
