Fast forward to September 5, 2020, and the turning of the soil marked a significant milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony led by Elder Craig C. Christensen. After years of anticipation, the Orem Utah Temple opened its doors for a public open house from October 27 to December 16, 2023, offering visitors a chance to explore its sacred spaces and appreciate the meticulous design that makes it truly one of a kind. Spanning 15.39 acres, the site was thoughtfully chosen, with the land acquired from the Niels Williamson family, whose roots stretch back to Norway. How special it must have been for members of the Williamson family to participate in the groundbreaking alongside their community!
The architecture of the temple is nothing short of breathtaking. With a commanding height of 218 feet, it features a striking single attached central spire, clad in beautiful pedras salgadas granite from Portugal. This unique exterior, coupled with its bronze-colored doors, invites all who pass by to stop and admire.
Inside, the grandeur continues. Covering 71,998 square feet, the temple holds four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a baptistry, each designed to facilitate spiritual growth and reflection. The interior flooring, adorned with exquisite Crema Marfil marble, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, showcasing intricate diamond patterns accented with shades of cream, red, green, and brown.
The windows tell a story of their own—taupe-hued with art glass designs capturing the elegance of cherry blossoms and the natural beauty of Utah Lake’s wetlands, reminiscent of the area’s rich landscape.
