Palmyra New York Temple

Palmyra New York an LDS Temple

Welcome to the Palmyra New York Temple, a beautiful and inviting landmark that holds a special place in the heart of many! Located at 2720 Temple Rd in Palmyra, New York, this picturesque temple is the 77th in operation and is a true gem.

The story of the Palmyra New York Temple began on February 21, 1999, when it was announced with much excitement. Just a few months later, on May 25, 1999, Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley led a touching groundbreaking ceremony that marked the beginning of a new chapter for the community. After a lovely public open house from March 25 to April 1, 2000, the temple was officially dedicated on April 6, 2000—what makes this date even more special is that it falls exactly 170 years after the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded in nearby Fayette, New York!

This tranquil temple is beautifully crafted with Bethel white granite, making it stand out against the backdrop of the serene landscape. Its elegant design features a single spire topped with a shining gold angel Moroni statue, inviting all to come and explore its sacred spaces.

Inside, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all perfectly designed to support spiritual experiences and personal growth. Spanning 10,900 square feet and perched at an elevation of 578 feet, the temple is a stunning sight to behold, especially as it looks over the historic Sacred Grove—where Joseph Smith had his momentous vision in the spring of 1820.

This temple is particularly special as it is the first one built in New York and was the 100th announced by the Church! It’s located on the original Smith Family Farm, which encompasses 100 acres of beautiful land, making it a wonderful spot for reflection and Temple work. And don’t forget to take a moment to admire the stained glass windows, which feature intricate designs that celebrate the Sacred Grove experience—a perfect blend of artistry and spirituality.

So whether you’re visiting for Temple work, reflection, or just to admire the beauty of this sacred space, the Palmyra New York Temple offers a warm welcome to everyone. Come and enjoy the peace and inspiration it has to offer!
