The journey towards the establishment of the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple began on October 4, 2008, when it was announced to the public by the Prophet during the General Conference. This date was particularly noteworthy, as it marked the 224th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States at Philadelphia’s Independence Hall. The public open house for the Temple took place from August 10, 2016, to September 9, 2016, drawing approximately 140,000 attendees. Architectural Features
The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple spans 61,466 square feet and was constructed on 1.6 acres of land, reaching a height of 208 feet 2 inches. The exterior is clad in granite sourced from Maine, with finishing work done in Canada. A prominent feature of the Temple is the Gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, standing 21 feet, 2 inches tall, positioned atop the single attached spire.
