Discovering the Smithfield Utah Temple

The Smithfield Utah Temple, located at 755 West 100 North Smithfield, UT 84335, is an important addition to the region. Announced on April 4, 2021, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 191st General Conference, it was one of 20 Temples introduced during that session.

Groundbreaking and Dedication Smithfield Temple

The groundbreaking for the Smithfield Utah Temple took place on June 18, 2022. This significant event was led by Apostle Quentin L. Cook, who remarked about the beauty of the valley, saying, “I have seen much of the world, but this peaceful valley surrounded by these majestic mountains always feels like home to me. It is among the most beautiful places on earth.” Apostle Gary E. Stevenson and other church leaders were also present, adding to the occasion’s significance.

Architectural Features

The Smithfield Utah Temple spans 81,000 square feet and is built on an expansive 13.3 acres. This three-story Temple features an arched, colonnaded design with tall domed cupolas. Notably, it has two attached end towers, but it does not include a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue.

Interior Layout

The interior of the Temple is designed to facilitate various functions. It contains four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and two baptistries. This layout is intended to accommodate a variety of needs, providing ample space for the essential elements of the Temple’s purposes.

Elevation and Grounds Smithfield Utah Temple

Situated at an elevation of 4,506 feet, the grounds of the Smithfield Utah Temple are meticulously designed to face south. This orientation not only enhances the overall aesthetic but also maximizes winter sun exposure, helping to naturally melt snow and maintain accessibility throughout the year.

Community Impact

The Smithfield Utah Temple stands as the first Temple in Smithfield and the second in Cache Valley. At the time of its announcement, Utah had approximately 2.1 million Church members, making up about two-thirds of the state’s population of 3.3 million residents.

In a dedicatory prayer, Apostle Quentin L. Cook expressed gratitude, stating, “Our hearts are full of appreciation for those who have gone before us and who have laid the foundation for a Temple in northern Cache Valley.” He further articulated his hope that “this temple will be a beacon light for the communities it serves.”

The Smithfield Utah Temple represents not only a beautifully designed facility but also a significant development for the region and its residents.
