Throughout its history, the Mesa Arizona Temple has undergone significant renovations that reflect its commitment to serving the community. In February 1974, it closed for extensive remodeling to modernize its facilities, including the Creation, Garden, and World Rooms, allowing for single-room film presentations of the endowment. Notably, the valuable burlap murals were preserved and restored, ensuring the temple’s rich artistry was maintained for future generations. The renovation expanded its capacity with additional dressing rooms and sealing rooms, enhancing the experience for patrons.
More recently, beginning on May 19, 2018, the temple underwent another major renovation that was completed in 2021. The rededication of the Mesa Arizona Temple took place on April 15 and 16, 1975, by Spencer W. Kimball, following the first-ever open house prior to a rededication held between October 16 and November 20, 2021. A subsequent rededication occurred on December 12, 2021, officiated by Dallin H. Oaks.
Architecturally, the Mesa Arizona Temple commands attention with its flat roof and sculpted friezes. Spanning an impressive 75,000 square feet, it encompasses four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and one baptistery. Towering at 53 feet and situated at an elevation of 1,240 feet, this temple is strategically placed on a 20-acre site. Its robust exterior, made of concrete reinforced with 130 tons of steel, is elegantly finished with glazed, egg-shell colored terra cotta tiles.
