Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple

Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple by LDS Temple News

Welcome to the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple, a beautiful new addition that holds a special place in the hearts of many! As the 196th dedicated temple, it’s a testament to faith and community spirit. You can find it at 2093 Powell Road in Cranberry Township, a lovely spot that’s ready to welcome everyone.

The journey to this moment started on April 5, 2020, when Prophet Russell M. Nelson made the exciting announcement that a new temple would be coming to Pittsburgh. Fast forward to August 21, 2021, and the groundbreaking ceremony brought everyone together. Elder Randall K. Bennett led the way, encouraging everyone present to see this day not just as a milestone but as an opportunity for emotional and spiritual growth in their own lives and families.

Looking ahead, the temple will open its doors for a public open house from August 16th to August 31st, 2024! This will be a fantastic opportunity to explore the beautiful space before it’s officially dedicated on September 15, 2024, by the beloved Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf. Mark your calendars—exciting times are ahead!

Set on 5.8 acres, the temple’s exterior glows with stunning granite cladding from Portugal. Its design is unique, featuring a single attached central spire, distinguishing it from many other temples that often have the Angel Moroni statue atop. The beauty doesn’t stop there; inside the temple, you’ll find a spacious 32,240 square feet filled with warmth and tranquility. It includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry—all thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming atmosphere.

The interior features soft green carpeting accented with gold, and the entry and waiting areas are graced with cozy nylon rugs. You’ll also see elegant Crema Ella marble from Turkey, which adds a touch of sophistication to the space. In the celestial room, an organic leaf pattern invites reflection, while the stunning crystal chandeliers in the sealing room and celestial room create a magical ambiance with their frosted glass and brass accents.

Fun fact: this temple is the second one in Pennsylvania, and it serves around 100,000 Latter-day Saints in the Pittsburgh area! Pennsylvania has a rich history of faith, being the place where Prophet Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon, and it’s where John the Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, leading to their baptism in the Susquehanna River—a truly remarkable moment!

On January 19, 2021, the temple rendering was revealed to the public, allowing everyone to catch a glimpse of the beauty that was to come. The Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple isn’t just a building; it’s a home for inspiration, reflection, and connection. As we count down to the opening, the excitement in the air is palpable, and everyone is looking forward to the joy and blessings this temple will bring to the community!
