Welcome to the Pocatello Idaho Temple, a beautiful Temple that’s all about faith and community! As the 170th dedicated temple in operation, it’s a special place nestled at 3100 Butte St in Pocatello.
The story of this temple began on April 2, 2017, when it was announced with great excitement. Fast forward to March 16, 2019, when Elder Wilford W. Andersen officiated the groundbreaking and dedication—what an unforgettable day for everyone involved!
From September 18 to October 23, 2021, the temple opened its doors to the public, welcoming a whopping 250,721 visitors during the open house! Then, on November 7, 2021, Apostle M. Russell Ballard led the dedication ceremony, offering a heartfelt prayer for everyone who would visit this sacred space. It was a beautiful moment that celebrated hope and love.
The temple sits on 10.94 acres, featuring a stunning exterior made of white granite imported from China. Its standout feature is a magnificent spire with a golden Angel Moroni statue on top. Inside, there’s plenty of room for Temple Work and reflection, with four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a baptistry spread across 71,125 square feet!
Standing tall at 194 feet 6 inches, the temple is a sight to behold, especially from nearby Interstate 15 and Interstate 86. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, filled with over 500 trees and thousands of flowers, including Norwegian sunset maple and colorful shrubs like English lavender and snow queen hydrangea. It creates such a peaceful and inviting atmosphere!
Inside, you’ll find a stunning stained glass window of Jesus Christ holding a lamb in the chapel area. There’s also a grand staircase made from beautiful travertine limestone that welcomes you as you enter. And did you know this temple is three stories high? It truly combines modern design with artistic touches, including stained glass windows that showcase Idaho’s very own wildflowers.
Interestingly, the idea of a temple in Pocatello dates back to the 1930s, but due to some water obstacles, it wasn’t until 2017 that the dream finally became a reality!
So, whether you’re looking for a place of Temple Work, reflection, or simply a beautiful spot to enjoy the outdoors, the Pocatello Idaho Temple is a wonderful destination that radiates warmth and community spirit. Come by, take a look, and feel the love that surrounds this sacred place!
