Nestled in the heart of Pocatello, Idaho, the Pocatello Idaho Temple stands as a magnificent symbol of faith and community. As the 170th dedicated temple in operation, this stunning structure offers a serene sanctuary for Temple Work and reflection.
Located at 3100 Butte St, Pocatello, Idaho 83201, the temple was announced on April 2, 2017, and after much anticipation, its groundbreaking and site dedication took place on March 16, 2019, led by Elder Wilford W. Andersen. The community eagerly awaited its public open house, which welcomed an impressive 250,721 visitors from September 18 to October 23, 2021.
The temple’s dedication on November 7, 2021, led by Apostle M. Russell Ballard, was a momentous occasion. Elder Ballard’s heartfelt prayer included a beautiful plea for the youth and children to feel God’s love as they explore this sacred place.
Spanning 10.94 acres, the Pocatello Idaho Temple features a striking exterior of white granite imported from China, crowned with a single central spire and a magnificent gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. Inside, visitors find four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all within its impressive 71,125 square feet of space that soars 194 feet 6 inches into the sky.
As you approach the temple, you’re greeted by lush landscaping—over 500 trees and thousands of flowers surround the grounds. The beauty of nature is reflected in the selection of Norwegian sunset maple, sawleaf zelkova, and Dolgo crabapple trees, alongside vibrant shrubs such as English lavender and snow queen hydrangea. Perennial favorites like white firs, alpine firs, and lodgepole pines frame the perimeter, echoing the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.
Visible from both Interstate 15 and Interstate 86, the temple is an inspiring Temple for travelers and locals alike. Interestingly, Pocatello was once poised to host Idaho’s first temple back in the 1930s, but due to water obstacles, that vision was delayed until the recent completion of the Pocatello Idaho Temple we cherish today.
Inside, the chapel area enchants visitors with a stunning stained glass window depicting Jesus Christ cradling a lamb, while the grand staircase—clad in elegant travertine limestone—invites you to explore more. The temple’s design spans three stories high, with intricate stained glass windows showcasing Idaho’s wildflowers, including the state flower, syringa. The colors reflect the region’s beauty, from sage and gold to soft pinks and corals, capturing the essence of the Idaho mountain desert.
The Pocatello Idaho Temple is more than just a building; it’s a place where hearts are touched, and lives are inspired. Whether you seek peace, fellowship, or spiritual growth, this sacred space invites everyone to experience its profound beauty.
