The story of this lovely temple goes way back to April 7, 1984, when it was first announced. Fast forward to September 30, 1986, when the groundbreaking ceremony took place, led by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. It was a day of excitement that laid the foundation for something truly special.
From June 15 to July 8, 1989, the doors flew open for a public open house, and a whopping 314,232 people came to marvel at its beauty! A few weeks later, between August 19 and 21 in 1989, the temple was officially dedicated by President Hinckley, marking a joyful moment for the community.
Set on 7.3 acres of gorgeous land, the temple features stunning white Vermont marble walls and a lovely green Vermont slate roof. One of its most striking features is the six spires and four domes, topped with a shining gold-leafed Angel Moroni that glistens in the sun.
Inside, you’ll find all sorts of wonderful spaces fourteen sealing rooms, a beautiful baptistry, and four instruction rooms spread over an impressive 80,500 square feet. Standing tall at 181 feet and sitting at an elevation of 235 feet, the temple is hard to miss as you drive down I-5, surrounded by majestic Douglas fir trees.
The grounds include a peaceful reflection pool on the east side and a stunning infinity pool on the west side, perfect for taking in the serene atmosphere. There’s even a visitor center where you can stop by—just remember to check online for the hours before you go!
