Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple: A New Chapter in Minas Gerais

Nestled in the vibrant city of Belo Horizonte, the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple is set to become a significant addition to the spiritual landscape of the region. This much-anticipated T emple will hold its open house from June 13 to June 27, 2026, providing an opportunity for individuals and families to see the beauty and design up close prior to its dedication.

The announcement for this T emple was made on April 4, 2021, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 191st Annual General Conference. It marked a pivotal moment in the growth of the church in Brazil, reflecting the commitment and enthusiasm of local congregations. The groundbreaking took place on June 17, 2023, led by Elder Juan A. Uceda. A total of 500 guests gathered for this memorable event, where Elder Uceda expressed heartfelt wishes for the T emple’s impact on the community. He prayed for special protection for those living nearby and emphasized the hope that the light of the gospel would shine throughout the area.

Spanning an impressive 11.8 acres, the T emple covers a total of 27,000 square feet, providing ample space for various activities. Noteworthy architectural features include a single attached central tower topped with a pyramid roof, though it notably lacks a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. Inside, the T emple will house two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, facilitating various rites and traditions.

Set at an elevation of 2,740 feet, the location offers stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape. Upon completion, the T emple is scheduled to be dedicated on August 16, 2026. The rendering of the T emple was released to the public on September 23, 2021, capturing the imagination of future visitors and congregants alike.

Belo Horizonte is not the first place in Brazil to host such a T emple. Several other T emples have already been established, including those in Belém, Brasília, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, São Paulo East, and Salvador. However, the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple holds the distinction of being the first T emple built in Minas Gerais and the 12th overall in Brazil.

Before its construction, Brazil was home to over 1.4 million members spread across 2,100 congregations, showcasing the incredible growth of the church in this vibrant nation. The introduction of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple signifies a new era, offering enhanced opportunities for connection, learning, and joy within the faith.

As the community looks forward to the opening of this important new Temple, excitement builds, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey for individuals and families in Minas Gerais and beyond.
