A Historic Milestone: Springfield Missouri Temple Groundbreaking Set for June 2026
Mark your calendars! On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Springfield, Missouri will witness a momentous occasion as the groundbreaking ceremony for the Springfield Missouri Temple takes place. Elder Aroldo B. Cavalcante of the United States Southeast Area Presidency will lead this significant event.
A State Rich in Latter-day Saint Heritage
Missouri holds a special place in Church history. During the faith’s formative years, Latter-day Saints poured their hearts into establishing Zion in this very state. Fast forward to today, and that legacy is thriving—over 84,000 faithful members now call Missouri home, gathering in approximately 180 congregations across the state.
A Third House of the Lord
The Springfield Missouri Temple represents something truly special: it will be the third dedicated temple in Missouri, joining the beloved Kansas City Missouri and St. Louis Missouri Temples. This expansion reflects the Church’s growing presence and commitment to serving Latter-day Saints throughout the region.
President Nelson’s Powerful Vision
When President Nelson announced this temple in April 2023, he shared a message that resonates deeply: “Whatever questions or problems you have, the answer is always found in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.” He urged the Saints to deepen their understanding of the Savior’s Atonement, love, mercy, and doctrine.
What Makes Temples Sacred
Unlike meetinghouses where the community gathers for Sunday worship, temples are uniquely sacred spaces—”houses of the Lord” where Christ’s eternal teachings come alive. Here, members experience spiritual peace, receive divine guidance, deepen their understanding of life’s purpose, and make sacred covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve humanity. It’s where families are bound together for eternity.
