Rendering of the Burley Idaho Temple

On April 4, 2021, a momentous announcement was made at the 191st Annual General Conference: President Russell M. Nelson unveiled plans to build the Burley Idaho Temple, which will proudly stand as the seventh temple in Idaho. This remarkable development is set against the backdrop of Idaho’s stunning Magic Valley, home to an agricultural landscape that boasts over 460,000 residents.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 4, 2022, presided over by Elder Brent H. Nielson of the Presidency of the Seventy, a native of Burley. Elder Nielson reflected on his roots, sharing, “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life and the wonderful abundance that the Lord has blessed all who reside in this beautiful Magic Valley.” This adds a personal touch to the temple’s significance, emphasizing its deep connection to the local community.

Designed to encompass 38,600 square feet, the Burley Idaho Temple will be constructed on a 10.1-acre site at the junction of 40 South and 150 East. During the dedicatory prayer, Elder Nielson beautifully expressed the hope for the temple, stating, “When soil is turned and seeds are sown, a bountiful harvest is always expected.” He prayed for an “eternal harvest” as this house of the Lord rises from the ground, symbolizing faith and community growth.

An exciting public open house is scheduled from November 6 to November 22, 2025, with the temple’s dedication set for January 11, 2026. During the dedicated session, congregations across the temple district will participate via broadcast, uniting the community in celebration.

The temple’s unique architecture is a stunning reflection of its surroundings. With its single attached end spire rising to 172 feet, it will serve as a notable landmark in the area. Constructed with a steel frame and clad in beautiful Bianco Sarda granite, the design incorporates local agricultural motifs. Inside, art glass patterns that depict potato plant blossoms infuse the space with the essence of the region. The color palette—featuring hues of blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green—mirrors the fertile farmland and expansive skies of Idaho.

Inside the temple, four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry provide sacred spaces for spiritual rites and teachings. The interiors boast plush soft gold broadloom carpets in public areas and creamy white carpets in celestial and sealing rooms, enhancing the temple’s serene ambiance. Botticino Classico marble, accented with Jerusalem Gold and Verde Guatemala stones from Italy, adds a touch of elegance, while exquisite decorative light fixtures create a warm, inviting atmosphere throughout.

The meticulous design continues with quarter-sawn sapele wood featured prominently in the interior, contributing to a sense of warmth and sanctity. Stained glass windows intricately showcase the potato blossom, serving as a beautiful tribute to the local heritage.
