Rendering of the Springfield Missouri Temple was released on December 16, 2024
The Springfield Missouri Temple is set to become a significant House of the Lord in the region. Announced on April 2, 2023, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson, this House of the Lord is part of a continued effort to establish sacred spaces within Missouri.
Architectural Highlights
One of the defining architectural characteristics of the Springfield Missouri Temple is its single attached central spire. Unlike many other temples, this House of the Lord will not feature a gold-leafed Angel Moroni at its apex. However, the church has a history of adding Angel Moroni statues later, so this design choice may change in the future. The entire House of the Lord will encompass 29,000 square feet and is built on 38 acres, making it both functional and expansive.
Significant Features
Inside the Springfield Missouri Temple, there will be two instruction rooms, a baptistry, and two sealing rooms. These spaces are designed to serve the spiritual needs of Church members in the area. The temple is constructed at an elevation of 1,275 feet, providing a peaceful and elevated perspective for those who come to this House of the Lord.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 6, 2026, with Elder Aroldo B. Cavalcante from the United States Southeast Area Presidency presiding over the event. In his dedicatory prayer, Elder Cavalcante referred to the House of the Lord as a “lighthouse” for both Church members and the surrounding area. His heartfelt prayer expressed a desire for the temple to bring peace, joy, hope, and courage to all who seek to come closer to their faith.
