Springfield Missouri Temple: A New House of the Lord

The Springfield Missouri Temple, a recently announced House of the Lord, is set to become a significant spiritual destination in the region. Planned for a location at 2720 East Farm Road #188 in Springfield, Missouri, this sacred space signifies a major commitment to the faith community in the area.

Rendering of the Springfield Missouri Temple

On April 2, 2023, the Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced the plans for the Springfield Missouri Temple. This news generated excitement among local members, paving the way for an important chapter in the area’s spiritual landscape. The groundbreaking ceremony occurred on June 6, 2026, and was presided over by Elder Aroldo B. Cavalcante, a leader in the United States Southeast Area Presidency. In his dedicatory prayer, Elder Cavalcante described the House of the Lord as a “lighthouse,” emphasizing its role in guiding and uplifting the community.

Architectural Features

The architectural design of the Springfield Missouri Temple highlights a single attached central spire, which is a defining feature of many Houses of the Lord. Notably, this building does not include a gold-leafed Angel Moroni at the time of completion. However, it is common for the church to add such elements later, enhancing the overall aesthetic. Spanning an impressive 29,000 square feet and built on 38 acres, this House of the Lord will provide ample space for its various functions and activities.

Facilities Within the House of the Lord

The Springfield Missouri Temple will include a variety of essential rooms to serve its purpose. There will be two instruction rooms, one baptistry, and two sealing rooms, ensuring that all necessary functions are accommodated within the House of the Lord. It is also built at an elevation of 1,275 feet, contributing to its prominence in the landscape.

A Home for Many

At the time of the announcement, the surrounding area held 160 congregations, comprising approximately 75,000 members. This new House of the Lord serves to further enrich the spiritual offerings available to the faithful in Springfield and its neighboring communities.

In conclusion, the Springfield Missouri Temple stands as a testament to the faith and dedication of its members. As it nears completion, it promises to be more than just a physical edifice; it is poised to be a source of increased spiritual strength and guidance. The commitment to building this House of the Lord reflects a deep-seated belief in the importance of fostering unity and strength among church members in the region.
