The Upcoming Teresina Brazil Temple: A Significant Milestone

On April 2, 2023, during the 194th General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced the Teresina Brazil Temple, igniting excitement among the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil.

The Teresina Brazil Temple is set to occupy a 3.6-acre site located at the intersection of Avenida Raul Lopes and Rua Des. Pedro Conde in Teresina, Piauí. With a spacious design of approximately 25,420 square feet, this Temple aims to serve the spiritual needs of the more than 1.5 million Latter-day Saints across the nation.

Design and Features

One notable feature of the Teresina Brazil Temple is its single attached central spire, which will not have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni topping it. The exterior will be crafted from granite, adding elegance and durability to its beautiful appearance.

The design rendering was released to the public on February 23, 2026, providing a glimpse of what the future holds. Meanwhile, the site for the Teresina Brazil Temple is situated at an elevation of 213 feet, giving it a unique prominence in the area.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

Mark your calendars for April 18, 2026, as this date will mark the groundbreaking and site dedication of the Teresina Brazil Temple. Elder Ciro Schmeil, the First Counselor in the Brazil Area Presidency, will preside over this significant event. It represents a considerable step forward in the construction of this important facility.

The Importance of Temples

Temples have long been regarded as places where essential ordinances and sacred covenants are made, and they play a vital role in the lives of Church members. President Nelson emphasized this point, stating, “Jesus Christ is the reason we build temples. Each is His holy house. Making covenants and receiving essential ordinances in the temple, as well as seeking to draw closer to Him there, will bless your life in ways no other kind of worship can.”

With dedicated facilities already in operation across Brazil—such as the temples in Belém, Brasília, Campinas, and Rio de Janeiro—this new addition will further enhance the spiritual landscape for Latter-day Saints in the region.

Future Prospects

Currently, there are also temples announced or under construction in Belo Horizonte, Campo Grande, Florianópolis, Goiânia, João Pessoa, Londrina, Maceió, Natal, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São Paulo East, and Vitória, which highlights the Church’s commitment to expanding its presence and services throughout Brazil.

The Teresina Brazil Temple represents a coming together of faith, dedication, and community spirit, marking a bright future for the members and families who will benefit from its services and programs. As the groundbreaking approaches, anticipation continues to build for what this remarkable addition will bring to the spiritual life of the area.
