On October 1, 2023, the Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced the construction of the Vancouver Washington Temple. This will be the sixth Temple in Washington State and the second in the Portland metropolitan area. At the time of the announcement, Washington was already home to five dedicated Temples: the Columbia River Washington Temple, Seattle Washington Temple, Spokane Washington Temple, and Moses Lake Washington Temple. The Tacoma Washington Temple was announced just a year prior, in October 2022.
As of the announcement, Washington had more than 280,000 Latter-day Saints across 489 congregations, making this new construction a significant development in the area.
Groundbreaking and Dedication
The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on August 23, 2025, led by Mark A. Bragg. During the ceremony, he conveyed the importance of the Temple, stating, “A Temple is truly the house of the Lord, a holy protection from the world where sacred ordinances of the gospel are performed by and for the living and in behalf of our ancestors, because we know that we live after this life and can return to live with our Heavenly Father.”
Architectural Features
The Vancouver Washington Temple will occupy 15.11 acres and encompass 43,000 square feet, rising to a height of 167 feet at an elevation of 267 feet. Its architectural design features a single attached end spire, providing a striking visual element to the structure.
