Vancouver Washington Temple: A New Chapter in Spirituality
The Vancouver Washington Temple is set to become a significant addition to the spiritual landscape of the region, with its anticipated completion in late 2028. This temple will be located at the intersection of SE 20th Street and SE Bybee Road in Camas, Washington.
Rendering of the Vancouver Washington Temple
On October 1, 2023, the Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced the construction of the Vancouver Washington Temple, marking it as the sixth temple in the state and the second in the Portland metropolitan area. This announcement comes at a time when Washington state boasts over 280,000 Latter-day Saints across 489 congregations. The existing temples in the state include the Columbia River Washington Temple, Seattle Washington Temple, Spokane Washington Temple, and Moses Lake Washington Temple. Also noteworthy is the Tacoma Washington Temple, which was announced in October 2022.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on August 23, 2025, officiated by Mark A. Bragg. During this event, he emphasized the profound purpose of a temple, stating, “A temple is truly the house of the Lord, a holy protection from the world where sacred ordinances of the gospel are performed by and for the living and in behalf of our ancestors, because we know that we live after this life and can return to live with our Heavenly Father.”
Architectural Features
The Vancouver Washington Temple will be constructed on a sprawling 15.11 acres and will encompass approximately 43,000 square feet. Notably, its architectural design features a single attached end spire, enhancing its majestic profile. The temple will also include several specialized rooms: four instruction rooms, one baptistry, and three sealing rooms. Additionally, it will reach an impressive height of 167 feet and sit at an elevation of 267 feet.
Renderings and Future Vision
On September 3, 2024, the architectural rendering of the Vancouver Washington Temple was publicly released, providing a visual glimpse into what this space will look like upon completion. As it stands, the temple will be the sixth to be built in Washington, contributing to the already vibrant spiritual community of the area.
A House of the Lord
This new addition to Vancouver serves a unique role as a house of the Lord in the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area. With its rich historical context and the surrounding members actively engaged in their faith, the temple is poised to serve a vital role in the spiritual lives of many.
In conclusion, the Vancouver Washington Temple is more than just a construction project; it represents a deep commitment to faith, community, and heritage, set to benefit future generations. As the foundation is laid and construction progresses, the anticipation for what this temple will bring continues to grow.
