Welcome to the Richmond Virginia Temple, a beautiful gem located at 10915 Staples Mill Rd in Glen Allen! As the 177th dedicated temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this delightful place is all about Temple and faith.
The journey to building this wonderful temple began back on April 1, 2018, when Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced it during the 188th annual General Conference. It was an exciting day for many! The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 11, 2020, with Randall K. Bennett leading the way.
After a long wait, the temple opened its doors for a public open house from March 25 to April 15, 2023, and what a treat it was for everyone to explore! The grand moment arrived on May 7, 2023, when the temple was officially dedicated by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks—a truly special day for the Temple.
The Richmond Virginia Temple is a sight to behold! Its exterior shines with beautiful Moleanos limestone from Portugal, and it stands tall at 164 feet, with its spire and gold-leafed Angel Moroni visible from afar. The elegant design really reflects the members charm.
As you step inside, you’ll find a warm atmosphere filled with four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and a lovely baptistry. The cozy royal navy-blue carpet features an octagonal pattern that nods to the classic Jeffersonian style, making you feel right at home. The floors are a lovely mix of carpet and marble stone in a diamond parquet pattern that adds a touch of elegance.
Don’t miss the stunning stained glass windows! They feature colors of blue, gold, and red, inspired by an early American color palette. The diamond motifs pull from members designs, creating a vibrant, welcoming environment.
Surrounding the temple, you’ll find plants carefully chosen to match the colonial vibe of the area, adding to the serene and peaceful setting.
As the very first temple built in Virginia, the Richmond Virginia Temple is a special place where everyone can come together for Temple work, reflection, and connection. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning, there’s a warmth and magic here that invites you to pause and enjoy the beauty around you!
