The Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is gearing up for a grand open house next year, and there’s plenty to anticipate! From April 5 to October 1, 2027, visitors will have the unique chance to explore this recently renovated site, with public tours expected to attract millions.
A Historic Invitation
Historically, it’s been over 130 years since the public has had unrestricted access to the Salt Lake Temple. After its closure on January 1, 2020, for seismic upgrades and extensive renovations, anticipation for this open house has been building. The church is preparing for up to 5 million guests over the six-month period, which equates to an astonishing 20,000 to 29,000 attendees each day. In fact, that’s comparable to the daily attendance during the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City!
Planning for the Crowds
To accommodate this expected turnout, the city and the church are collaborating on logistics. They are developing a comprehensive plan to ensure smooth circulation around the area. Church representatives have stated that they are planning for larger crowd numbers to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Ticketing and Transportation Details
As the open house date approaches, ticketing information will be crucial. The church plans to launch an app by late August or early September 2026 for visitors to book their tour times. Public transportation options will also be expanded, with partnerships established with UTA to offer seamless travel using TRAX, Frontrunner, and bus services. A lighted park-and-ride lot near South Temple and Redwood Road will further ease transportation concerns.
A Unique Touring Experience
The tour will kick off at the Conference Center just north of the temple and will include a journey underground to the temple itself. Participants can expect the tour to last approximately 60 to 80 minutes. Special missionaries will be called to serve as docents, enriching the experience with their insights.
For guests, access will extend beyond the temple to Temple Square and its new statues and other church buildings, making for an immersive visit that could take several hours.

Before the open house, the church will host Easter displays and is organizing its semi-annual general conference, scheduled for both April and October each year.
