Discovering the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple
The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple stands as the 179th dedicated Temple in operation, located at 987 South Ensign Drive, Saratoga Springs, Utah 84045. With its unique architectural features and rich history, it has quickly become a notable part of the area.
A Brief History
The announcement for the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple was made on April 2, 2017, by the Prophet Thomas S. Monson. At that time, Utah had 16 dedicated Temples, including the likes of the Bountiful, Brigham City, and Jordan River Temples. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on October 19, 2019, conducted by Craig C. Christensen.
The public open house, held from April 15, 2023, through July 8, 2023, attracted an incredible 587,809 guests who toured the House of the Lord. The Temple was officially dedicated on August 13, 2023, by Apostle Henry B. Eyring.
Architectural Features
Exterior Design
Sitting on 22.71 acres, the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple features an exterior of beige precast concrete panels that are eight inches thick. The spire, crafted from glass fiber reinforced concrete, is topped with a gold leafed Angel Moroni Statue. Additionally, the building’s construction incorporates steel with concrete shear walls and floor slabs.
A decorative band encircling the exterior showcases a mountain design, and the wetlands and snowy egrets of Utah Lake are represented as well. The art glass throughout the interior reflects the Arts and Crafts movement, with colors and forms mimicking the beauty of Utah Lake and the Wasatch Mountains.
Interior Details
Inside, the flooring consists of carpet, area rugs, porcelain tile, ceramic tile, glass tile, and stone. Custom designs enhance the brides’ room, entry, and patron waiting areas. The restroom floors showcase unique “rug-like” patterns, while the baptistry features a custom floor pattern created by the architectural team. The interior walls are adorned with stylized flowers representing local wildflowers, including iris, daisy, and chrysanthemum.
Art Glass
The art glass design inside the Temple utilizes purples, blues, greens, and golds influenced by the surrounding natural environment. Notably, the main level at the baptistry depicts snowy egrets, aligning with the Saratoga Springs City logo, while stylized shapes above represent birds and mountains.
Decorative Features
Light fixtures in the bride’s room are crafted from Swarovski Crystal, and the font railings combine antique brass, African mahogany, and glass. The ceilings predominantly feature painted gypsum with stepped designs adding dimension.
Artistic Elements
The Temple is adorned with original artwork such as “Evening, Distant Mountain” by Brad Aldridge and “Timpanogos Sunrise” by Ken Stockton, adding to the overall aesthetic and spiritual ambiance of the space.
Accessibility and Surroundings
Conveniently located in a new development area, the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple is surrounded by new houses being built. A meetinghouse is also situated in the same parking lot, ensuring easy access for those residing in the vicinity.
The elevated plaza offers spectacular views of Utah Lake and the Wasatch Front, framed by evergreens and mountain shrubs, creating an inviting atmosphere for reflection.
