Exploring the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple
The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple, located at 987 South Ensign Drive, Saratoga Springs, Utah 84045, stands as the 179th dedicated Temple in operation. This remarkable addition to the area was announced by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during General Conference on April 2, 2017. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on October 19, 2018, led by Craig C. Christensen, who spoke about the Temple’s ability to bless families and individuals.
Spread over 22.71 acres, the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple features an eye-catching exterior composed of beige precast concrete panels that are eight inches thick. The spire is made of glass fiber-reinforced concrete, while the building itself incorporates a solid structure of steel, concrete shear walls, and concrete floor slabs. A decorative band encircling the exterior showcases mountain designs and representations of Utah Lake wetlands, paying homage to the local environment.
Inside, art glass stained windows reflect the Arts and Crafts movement, highlighting natural colors and forms inspired by the surrounding landscapes of Utah Lake and the Wasatch Mountains. Rich hues of purples, blues, greens, and golds fill the interiors. The flooring features a combination of carpet, porcelain, ceramic, glass tiles, and stone, with unique, carved patterns that enhance the design.
The Temple includes four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and one baptistry, extending across a total area of 87,836 square feet. The height reaches a striking 199 feet and 9 inches, situated at an elevation of 4,652 feet. The architectural features are enhanced by a single attached central spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, making a visually compelling statement atop the building.
Symbolic elements are woven throughout the design. The stylized flowers, representing local wildflowers such as the iris, daisy, and chrysanthemum, connect visitors to the regional flora. The interior of the font within the baptistry is adorned with TREND Mosaic Brillante glass tiles in an array of blues, whites, creams, and purples, embodying the serene aesthetic of the area.
The art glass that dominates the main level at the baptistry depicts snowy egrets amidst wetlands, reflecting the Saratoga Springs City logo. Wave and water patterns echo the natural elements of nearby Utah Lake, while stylized gold shapes suggest silhouettes of birds and mountain representations.
The decorative light fixtures, including a Schonbek light fixture in the brides’ room, complement the overall grandeur. Antique brass and Sapele African mahogany compose the railings around the font in the baptistry. The temperate design carries through with art glass incorporated into some doors, and decorative hardware replicates the unique architectural detailing found throughout.
Ceilings primarily feature painted gypsum, with some areas boasting stepped ceilings that enhance the architectural appeal. Custom ceiling medallions adorned with floral and foliage embellishments present an exquisite finish to the interiors.
The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple represents the eighteenth Temple built in the state of Utah and the fifth within Utah County, joining its counterparts, including the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple and the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple. The public open house ran from April 15, 2023, to July 8, 2023, lasting a total of 84 days. The Temple was dedicated by Apostle Henry B. Eyring on August 13, 2023.
