The Snowflake Arizona Temple holds a special place in the hearts of many, serving as the 108th dedicated Temple in operation. With its stunning architecture and rich history, this site offers insight into the community’s values and heritage.
History and Dedication
The journey for the Snowflake Arizona Temple began on April 2, 2000, when Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley announced its construction. The groundbreaking and site dedication followed on September 23, 2000, led by Elder Rex D. Pinegar. During this event, President Stephen Reidhead of the Snowflake Arizona Stake shared stories of the early pioneers who dreamt of having a Temple in the area. Elder Pinegar described the Temple as the most sacred place on earth, urging members to unify in this space where differences dissolve.
A public open house took place from February 2 to February 16, 2002, attracting 94,146 attendees. The Temple was officially dedicated on March 3, 2002, once again by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. His remarks highlighted the efforts of the early settlers, noting the beautiful fruits of their hard work now manifested in the Temple.

Exterior Design
Situated on 7.5 acres, the Snowflake Arizona Temple showcases a beautiful exterior made from two tones of imported, polished granite quarried in China. Its architectural design boasts a single attached end spire topped by a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. The Temple stands at an impressive height of 60 feet and covers 18,621 square feet on a single story.
The exterior glass features classic geometric beveled designs layered with decorative panes, including distinct dichroic glass that transforms in color based on light and angle. Surrounding the entrance, meticulously planned landscaping integrates seamlessly with the natural surroundings, highlighted by a captivating water feature.
Interior Highlights
Inside, the decor pays homage to the area’s history and culture. The furniture captures a pioneer essence, akin to that found in the Vernal Utah Temple. Specially crafted pieces might feature Native American designs, reflecting the local heritage.
Artistic elements include landscape murals painted by Native American artist Linda Turley-Christensen, depicting the stunning Arizona scenery. In addition, a portrait of Jacob Hamblin pays tribute to the region’s history, remembering the early missionary who engaged with Native Americans.
Unique Materials and Design Elements
The interior features cherry and maple wood doors, with solid forged brass hardware enhancing the overall elegance. Brass fixtures can be found throughout, including in the light fixtures and the railings around the baptismal font.
One unique feature is the console cabinet, adorned with a beautiful peach tree branch design, drawing on Jacob Hamblin’s legacy of trading goods for peaches, leading to the planting of peach trees in the area. The artwork also includes stunning stained-glass windows illustrating Christ with children, creating an inviting atmosphere within.
