The Star Valley Wyoming Temple stands proudly as the 154th Temple in operation. Located at 885 S Washington St, Afton, Wyoming 83110, this impressive building holds a special place in the region.
A Journey Through Time
The story of the Star Valley Wyoming Temple began on October 1, 2011, when it was announced by the Prophet Thomas S. Monson during General Conference. The groundbreaking and dedication of the site took place on April 25, 2015, officiated by Craig C. Christensen. This marked the start of a significant chapter in the area’s history.
Public Open House
Following its construction, the Temple welcomed a total of 78,000 people during its public open house from September 23 to October 8, 2016. This event offered an opportunity for the people of the region to experience the beauty and grace of the Temple.
Dedication
The Star Valley Wyoming Temple was officially dedicated on October 30, 2016, by Apostle David A. Bednar. In his dedicatory prayer, he expressed a profound love and commitment, stating, “Father, our words cannot express the smallest part of the love we have for Thee and Thy Beloved Son. Our strong desires are for righteousness and purity. We yearn to return to Thee with our families, sealed together for time and for all of eternity. This day our devotion is deepened, and our commitment to Thy eternal purposes is strengthened.”
Architectural Features
Covering an impressive 43.6 acres, the Temple features an exterior made of precast concrete panels. It showcases distinct architectural elements, including a single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, placed on April 25, 2016.
Room Details
Inside, the Temple comprises one instruction room, one sealing room, and a single baptistry. The overall space spans 18,609 square feet, offering a serene environment for its purposes.
Height and Elevation
The Star Valley Wyoming Temple stands tall at a height of 123 feet and is located at an elevation of 6,218 feet. This makes it a striking feature against the backdrop of the Wyoming landscape.
Unique Stained Glass explained by LDS Temple News
One of the most notable features is the stained glass in the foyer, which displays a beautiful depiction of Jesus Christ. This artwork originally came from a Presbyterian Church in New York City.
The First in Wyoming
This Temple holds the distinction of being the first building of its kind constructed in Wyoming. The Casper Wyoming Temple followed it later, adding to the spiritual richness of the state.
