Exploring the Brigham City Utah Temple
Nestled in the heart of Brigham City, Utah, the Brigham City Utah Temple stands as the 139th dedicated Temple in operation. This notable addition to Utah’s rich tapestry of Temples was officially announced on October 3, 2009, by then-Prophet Thomas S. Monson during the 179th Semiannual General Conference.
Groundbreaking and Dedication
On July 31, 2010, the ground was broken and the site was dedicated by Apostle Boyd K. Packer, marking the beginning of what would become an architectural gem. After two years of anticipation, the public open house ran from August 15 through September 15, 2012, allowing many to explore its beauty and design.
The Temple was dedicated on September 23, 2012, also by Apostle Boyd K. Packer, further establishing its role in the spiritual landscape of the area.
Design and Features
Covering an area of 36,000 square feet and rising to a height of 165 feet, the Brigham City Utah Temple is an impressive sight. Its exterior is finished with precast concrete limestone, providing an elegant appearance. Built on 3.14 acres, this Temple features two attached end spires topped with a gold-leafed statue of the Angel Moroni. The installation of this iconic figure took just 50 minutes and was witnessed by approximately 5,000 people—a testament to the significance of the occasion.
This Temple comprises two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry, all designed to facilitate various types of services and ceremonies.
Accessibility and Location
Located at 250 S Main St, Brigham City, Utah 84302, the Temple includes ample parking, featuring 123 surface stalls, 29 street stalls, and 130 underground stalls that can be accessed by driving on the west side of the property. Notably, there is no meetinghouse sharing the same parking lot, ensuring a dedicated space for those who come to the Temple.
Interestingly, the Temple occupies the grounds where an old school once stood before its demolition. Right across the street lies the historic Box Elder Tabernacle, making this area one rich in heritage.
A Milestone for Box Elder County
As the fourteenth Temple constructed in Utah, the Brigham City Utah Temple holds special significance as the first built in Box Elder County. Its presence adds a new dimension to the spiritual and architectural landscape of this beautiful region.
