Discovering the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple

The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple stands as the 179th dedicated temple in operation for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located at 987 South Ensign Drive, Saratoga Springs, Utah, this site has quickly become a significant part of the local landscape.

History and Dedication

Announced on April 2, 2017, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple was conceived at a time when there were 16 dedicated temples in Utah. Groundbreaking took place on October 19, 2019, with Craig C. Christensen leading the site dedication.

Following an extensive open house from April 15, 2023, to July 8, 2023, which attracted 587,809 guests, the temple was officially dedicated on August 13, 2023, by Apostle Henry B. Eyring. Covering 97,836 square feet, it sits on 22.71 acres at an elevation of 4,652 feet, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Exterior Design

The exterior is composed of beige precast concrete panels that are eight inches thick, while the spire showcases glass fiber reinforced concrete. A decorative band wraps around the exterior, featuring a mountain design along with representations of Utah Lake’s wetlands and snowy egrets—symbols significant to Saratoga Springs City. The art glass, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement, features natural colors and forms, reflecting the hues of Utah Lake and the Wasatch Mountains.

Interior Design

Inside, the temple features a rich array of materials and designs:

• Flooring: A combination of carpet, porcelain tile, ceramic tile, glass tile, and stone creates a unique aesthetic. Custom designs in areas like the bride’s room enhance the experience, while restroom floors showcase “rug-like” patterns.
• Decorative Elements: The interior walls feature stylized floral patterns representing local wildflowers, including iris, daisy, and chrysanthemum. The baptistry interior incorporates shades of blues, whites, creams, and purples, beautifully crafted with Mosaic Brillante glass tiles.

Art Glass & Lighting

The art glass design integrates colors from the natural surroundings, depicting snowy egrets and waves reflecting the wetlands and Utah Lake. The decorative light fixtures in the bride’s room include exquisite Schonbek pieces made with Swarovski crystal from Austria, exemplifying meticulous craftsmanship.

Decorative Details

Attention to detail is evident throughout:

• Font railings: Made from antique brass, Sapele African mahogany, and glass, these installations maintain the elegance of the space.
• Millwork: The millwork, doors, and standard woods are primarily Sapele African Mahogany, and the Art Deco style is consistent throughout.

Surroundings and Landscape

Situated in a new development area, the temple overlooks Utah Lake and the Wasatch Front. Local flora was chosen for landscaping to maintain sustainability while creating a serene environment. The elevated plaza offers stunning valley views, surrounded by native evergreens and mountain shrubs.
