Exciting Developments at the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple!
Excitement is in the air as the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple, previously known simply as the Provo Utah Temple, is set to embark on an incredible journey of transformation! Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021, this stunning architectural marvel is set to be a beacon of faith and community for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A New Era Begins
Construction officially kicked off on February 24, 2024, and this magnificent temple is slated for completion in late 2027. Spanning an impressive 163,000 square feet, this temple will sit majestically atop 81 meters (265 feet 6 inches) of elevation, making it not only a spiritual haven but also an iconic addition to the Provo skyline at an elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level.
An Emphasis on Accessibility
For visitors, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will not share a parking lot with the nearby meeting house, but fear not! An accessible parking area is located off to the corner across the street, ensuring that all who wish to visit can do so conveniently.
A Grander Design
Set on a 17-acre site, the new temple expands upon the previous structure’s 15 acres, thanks to a design that eliminates the road at the old front. The exterior of the temple will be clad in elegant granite, giving it a timeless and majestic look that will endure for generations. Unlike its predecessor, this new temple will feature a single, attached central spire devoid of the traditional gold-leafed Angel Moroni, which currently rests safely in storage.
A Spiritual Center for Many
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will become the sixth temple in Utah, providing spiritual refuge to an ever-growing number of church members, which currently stands at approximately 16.8 million globally and includes around 500 congregations within the state itself. This temple is designed to meet the needs of the faithful and strengthen their community ties.
Transparent Vision
The community was given a sneak peek of what the temple will look like when the rendering was released on November 24, 2021. This preview undoubtedly raised anticipation for what this beautiful house of worship will look like upon completion. As construction progresses, the excitement only continues to build!
