Discovering the Boston Massachusetts Temple: A Historic Gem

Nestled atop a scenic wooded granite hillside in Belmont, Massachusetts, the Boston Massachusetts Temple stands as a remarkable testament to dedication and artistic beauty. Covering 8 acres and sprawling over 69,900 square feet, it was the 100th dedicated temple to be put into operation.

Location and History

Situated at 100 Hinckley Way, this elegant Temple is visible from the Concord Turnpike, providing a striking visual to those passing. The Boston Massachusetts Temple was announced on September 30, 1995, marking the beginning of a long-anticipated journey. Groundbreaking and site dedication took place on June 13, 1997, led by Apostle Richard G. Scott, setting the stage for what would become a cherished addition to the area.

The community eagerly awaited the culmination of this journey, culminating in a public open house from August 29 to September 23, 2000. This event offered a unique opportunity for people to explore the temple’s stunning design and learn about its significance in the region.

A Momentous Dedication

On October 1, 2000, the Boston Temple was dedicated by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. His remarks that day underscored the importance of the building and the values it represents. The dedication also marked a historic moment as this was the first temple established in New England.

Architectural Features

The Boston Temple’s exterior boasts captivating Olympia white granite, exuding an air of elegance and permanence. One of its most striking features is the single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. This statue, however, was added later, on September 21, 2011, further enhancing the building’s aesthetic.

Inside, the Boston Mass Temple offers four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a baptistry, designed to facilitate various sacred rites and ceremonies.

Height and Elevation

Rising to a height of 139 feet, the temple holds a prominent place in the Belmont skyline. Its elevation of 331 feet adds to its visibility and allure, making it a standout feature of the area.

Additional Features

In addition to the main temple, there’s also a meeting house situated in the same parking lot, providing additional space for gatherings and activities.

The Boston Massachusetts Temple not only carries historical significance as a milestone in the region but also serves as a place of inspiration and reverence for many. Its construction was a labor of love that reflects the artistry and dedication of everyone involved in bringing this vision to life.
