A Closer Look at the Deseret Peak Utah Temple

Nestled in Tooele County, the Deseret Peak Utah Temple stands as the 200th Dedicated Temple. Situated at 2400 N 400 W, Tooele, Utah 84074, this remarkable addition to the region was announced by Prophet Russell M. Nelson on April 7, 2019. It marks a significant milestone in the history of Temples, following the Boston, Massachusetts Temple, which was the 100th dedicated Temple.

Groundbreaking and Dedication

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 15, 2021, officiated by Elder Brook P. Hales, a local General Authority. This event was a momentous occasion for many, as volunteers, including myself, gathered to assist in the setup. On November 10, 2024, Russell M. Nelson dedicated the Temple, solidifying its place in the hearts of many.

Architectural Highlights

Covering 15.5 acres, the Deseret Peak Utah Temple has an impressive 71,998 square feet of space, positioning it within the medium classification for Temples, which spans 40,000 to 80,000 square feet. Despite being classified as medium, the significance of the work and ceremonies conducted within remains profound.

The Temple features a single attached central tower, designed to support a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue in the future. The exterior is composed of glass fiber-reinforced concrete, providing a contemporary aesthetic, while the interior showcases art glass that incorporates flowers native to Tooele, specifically cliffrose and silvery lupine.

With three stories and a height of 182.8 feet, this beautiful building rises to an elevation of 4,603 feet, offering a picturesque view of the surrounding landscape.

Facilities and Features

Inside the Deseret Peak Utah Temple, there are four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a single baptistry. Additionally, a 20,000-square-foot meetinghouse is adjacent, sharing the same parking lot.

The official rendering of this Temple was unveiled to the public on April 7, 2020, offering a glimpse of what was to come. The thoughtful design reflects both modern sensibilities and timeless traditions, making it a cherished addition to the area.
