Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is an exciting development in the area, representing an important addition to the architectural landscape and religious offerings in Utah. Announced on October 3, 2021, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson, this Temple is set to enhance the spiritual experience for many.
Key Features of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple
This Temple will span a generous 163,000 square feet, marking it as a significant facility. Located on a 17-acre site, it surpasses the previous Temple’s footprint of 15 acres due to the removal of the road at the old front. For parking convenience, the site will include ample parking, although it will not have a meetinghouse in the same parking lot.
Architectural Details
The architectural design features an exterior clad in granite, providing a robust and elegant appearance. The building will have a single attached central spire, distinct in its design as it will not include a gold-leafed Angel Moroni; the previous one is currently in storage. The Temple will rise to an impressive height of 81 meters (265 feet 6 inches).
Landscaping Enhancements
Landscaping efforts are currently underway, with trees recently planted around the perimeter and sod placed to enhance the visual appeal. Additional improvements include waterscapes that contribute to the serene environment.
Construction Timeline
Construction began on February 24, 2024, with an expected completion date slated for late 2027. The rendering of the Temple was revealed to the public on November 24, 2021, generating considerable anticipation within the community.
Address and Location
The address for the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is 2200 Temple Hill Dr, Provo, UT 84604. At an elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level, it offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
The Significance of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple
This Temple will be the sixth of its kind in Utah, serving a vibrant membership base. At the time of the announcement, there were roughly 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with about 500 congregations in the state.
As more details emerge, including landscaping improvements that I will showcase in an upcoming YouTube video, excitement continues to build for this new addition to Provo’s spiritual landscape. The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is set to become a focal point for many in the area, embodying its rich heritage and future aspirations.
